A nice little tweak for XP.

Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

Here's how to get it back:

Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.

RELIACE LG LXU-8OO COFIGURATION-STEP BY STEP IN LINUX

First of all you need Linux drivers for your LG LXU-800 modem. So download the drivers from the reliance website, for your convenience i have put the site URL below.

The driver in my case is under the High speed 1x , LG LXU-800 , so i downloaded the zip file and extracted it. Actually in my case of LG LXU modem the drivers are for Linux kernel image for version 2.6.27-7 , so i installed this kernel .
If your Linux kernel is different one, don't be panic, i have the solution. just download the following 3 files for Linux kernel image version 2.6.27-7 and install them on your Linux system.

Now for downloading and installing, follow these steps :

For Debian or Ubuntu only ( .deb files )

Step 1 : Download the working kernel files:
(a) linux-image for kernel -

Now modify the wvdial.conf file to connect to the internet:

This post explains how to submit your blogger sitemap to Yahoo.By submitting your sitemap to yahoo, they will index your web pages in yahoo search engine and provide you with detailed information related to your blog like which pages are linking to yours,popular pages in your site and you can submit and track feeds for your sites.
Also,you have the choice to delete any urls of your blog if you won't want to index certain pages of your site.
Submitting your site to yahoo is easy and give your web pages more exposure.

All you need is a YAHOO ACCOUNT(ID).However,you don't need an yahoo ID to know the information like how many pages are indexed,etc.

Let't see how to make yahoo to index your webpages by submitting your blog sitemap.
1.Go to Yahoo Site Explorer
2.Click on the 'Sign in' link which is at the top of the page,see the screenshot below(If you don't have a Yahoo id, you can get one here) and sign into your accoutnt.

3.Type your blog url in the box provided as shown in the below screenshot.Don't forget to replace the 'yourblogurl' with the original url of your blog and click on the 'Add My Site'

4.After adding your site,you need to Authenticate(Verify your ownership).

There are two ways to verify your ownership.One is to upload a file to the root directory of your site which can't be possible in blogger.
Another one is to 'adding a metatag' which is possible and the only way to verify ownership for bloggers.First,copy the metatag..

Next,sign in to your blogger account>Edit html and paste the metatag below the head tag and SAVE THE CHANGES,look at the screenshot below.

Next,you will get a message saying that 'Your site is pending authentication'

Note:Don't remove the metatag, they will revalidate your ownership by checking your ownership regularly.

5.Next,go back to the 'Site explorer home', and check the box next to your blog url and click on the Manage button.

6.Type rss.xml or atom.xml in the box provided.It helps yahoo to discover more of your site content via your rss or atom feeds and to index your blog pages quickly whenever your blog is updated.Next,click on the add feed button.

That's it.Now,you have sucessfully submitted your blog sitemap to yahoo.Check your account after a couple of days and you will see your blog indexed in yahoo search engine.

NOTE: I found problem with blogspot site, when we put the yahoo meta-tag and clicked save option, it reports a error saying

"Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The element type "META" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".

Here is the solution just close the meta tag with farward slash as shown below.

1 - Ubuntu

First of all, you should have a clear idea about what partition type you want to mount in Linux. i.e., whether it is fat32, NTFS, HPFS or any other type that you have in your computer.

There is no registry in Linux

In windows there is the registry, the registry is a database which keeps all your settings. If you want to change anything not in a menu (or in a menu) you need to use the regedit program Or a script.

In Linux there is no such thing as a registry.

In Linux everything is a file

All configurations are in text files, and everything in Linux is treated as a file. This is a much simpler approach which makes it very easy to change things in Linux. In Linux even your filesystem itself can be viewed as a file.

In Linux there’s no such thing as drive letters

In Linux all your “drives” are on the same tree, this means that instead of navigating to a drive letter you always navigate to a subdirectory.

Important thing about Linux is that you can mount the Windows Drives on your Linux but the reverse is not possible.

You should see the command line as the registry editor

If you perceive the command line stuff in Linux which we call “shell” in the open source Language as a difficult thing to cope with, remember the following.

The Shell makes it possible to do everything (and a whole lot more) for which you would need to use regedit for in windows.For example In windows you cannot use the command line to change your garbage bin icon. You need regedit to do such a thing in windows.

Still the shell is capable of doing a lot more things then what regedit in windows can do.

If you are used to windows command line, there are some differences

The slash is the other way: in linux / is used in representing the path instead of \ used in Windows. For example the path in Linux will /usr/bin/ls . You might be thinking about the which drive does it signify. Well as I said earlier there is no drives in Linux there is only a Single Root and it represented by ‘/’ and the rest part of the path represent the path to the file ls.

Get used to tab completion

Similar to Windows Command Line, you may use the tab for auto completion in Shell. If you type the first few letters of a command and then tab it will try to fill in the rest. This works equally well with file name.

‘man’ is for Manual

If you need to know how to use a command, type man [command name] on the command line. Try man rm to get the information of how you can use rm.

Find yourself a package manager

Package managers are programs which install software, almost every software you use in windows is available in Linux for free, with a package manager you can list and search through available software and install program for free. If your not used to Linux and coming from windows, package managers are your life saver.

There’s no such thing as .exe

In Linux there’s no such thing as .exe files. If something is executable it has it’s executable bit set. You can find executables with ls -F this will show an asterisk * on every executable file. use man ls to find more listing options.

Execute programs in the current directory with ./program name

Starting a program which is in the current directory is done by prefixing it with a ./ so the shell will start looking in the current directory.

You can slash Firefox’s slow load time by compressing the DLLs and executables. There are many choices for compression but I suggest you use UPX which is free, efficient and time proven.

1. Download UPX from http://upx.sourceforge.net/#download

2. Unzip upx.exe into your Firefox installation folder which is normally C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.

3. Make sure Firefox is not running then shell to a command prompt in the Firefox installation directory.

4. Type in the following command in a single line and hit return:

for %v in (*.exe *.dll components\*.dll plugins\*.dll) do upx “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\%v”

5. If on some later occasion you want to unpack the files, just type in the command above but add the decompression switch “-d” after “do upx.”

What is seeding of torrents?

Seeding is the process of connecting to a torrent when you have a complete file.

Yes it is important to seed 1 to 1. The more seeders there are on a torrent the faster the torrent is. You are not downloading the torrent from the actual site you get it from. You are downloading it off another user that has it on their computer.

Let’s say someone uploads a torrent to a site and that person seeds at 100kbps. At first every single leecher is trying to get the file from the uploader which if there are 10 leechers then each leecher is approximately getting the file at 10kbps.

Let’s say the 10 people finish downloading the torrent from the uploader. Each also is seeding at a speed of 100kbps.

That means the total speed of the torrent after the 10 get done downloading the file is 1100kbps. Because 10 are seeding at 100kbps and the original uploader is seeding at 100kbps. So if there are 11 more leechers getting the file now each of those leechers are approximately getting the file at 100kbps instead of 10kbps because there is a 1 to 1 ratio per seeder & leecher.

If everyone just downloaded the file from the uploader and stopped seeding without seeding the torrent 1:1 then the uploader will always be stuck seeding. Which the speed of the torrent will hardly go up because the leechers will always outnumber the seeder.

So it is important to seed back at least what you take. So if you download a file that is 1GB then seed back 1GB. That is why it is called FILE SHARING. People are considerate enough to share their stuff you can repay them back by seeding back what you take so others can enjoy it as well.

Bing is the current web search engine from Microsoft.

Bing has broken into the top-20 websites within a month of its launch. It went fully online on June 3, 2009, with a preview version released on June 1, 2009.

According to a web information company, Alexa, Google dominates the charts but Bing is already at 19th position with about 5% of users from India accessing internet to visit Bing.

ViziSense, another online traffic measurement and metric tool, tells us that since the launch of Bing in India, the traffic on Microsoft sites has gone up. For instance,

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

AIRTEL HACK 2009 FOR UNLIMITED FREE SMS

Navigate to Messages option on your mobile and click on Settings
Click on Message Center Number and proceed to add a new message center number.
In Message Center Name field, write anything. For an example, “sms hack”.
In the Message Center Number field, write +919810051905
Choose Preferred Connection Type as Packet Data
Save the message center and activate it from the options.

Now we have configured the message settings to send and receive all message through an another message center number. But since we have selected Packet data as connection type, we have to do some additional settings on our phone.

And also, message center number settings option may vary from phone to phone. The above steps are mentioned for Nokia mobile phones. If you want to try sending free SMS from any other handset, use your mobile manual and set the new message center number accordingly.
